I am appealing to extend my incomplete status for PHIL361 (Fall 2016) into August 2017.
As I outlined in a previous appeal letter to you April 2015, I have been struggling with chronic Lyme disease since at least September of 2011, and as a result have had to combat debilitating symptoms for many years now. My health temporarily improved for a couple stints of a few months but I kept returning to my baseline until the bottom really fell out this past fall to the point where I could not read more than a paragraph at a time.
I finally had a breakthrough this past spring as doctors found several other bacterial infections that are not well known or well treated in Canada. It took nearly three years of intense medical detective work, visits to clinics in California, New Jersey, and New York and contact with over fifty medical professionals to break the back of my case. Now that I am being treated for those in addition to a genetic deficiency that has been exacerbating their severity, I am finally starting to see some lasting results.
According to recent neuropsychological testing, my cognitive function has been drastically decreased for years and it only started to improve with treatment beginning in March. Due to living in a constant mental fog and devoting the limited energy that I have had to my health issues, I have been unable to participate in courses properly, let alone make appeals on time. Thankfully now I am on the path to a (hopefully) full recovery in the coming months and years with an already markedly improved brain and increased quality of life.
I plan to return to my studies this fall and pursue a B.A. (Honours) in Philosophy or a B.A. (Hons.) in the new Philosophy, Politics and Economics Specialization program.
