Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I have recently received a letter regarding my academic standing at Queens University, and I have been asked to depart from my studies for 12 months, and I am heart broken.
The reasoning behind such decision is obviously due to my low GPA, even despite being put on academic probation, I have not managed to get it up, and the decision concerning my GPA made by the Board, I respect it, but I implore for it to be reviewed it.
I have been travelling a lot to my home town during the school year, a total of 15 times for a prolonged period of time. My home town is Aurora, Ontario, where my 2 younger brothers and my parents reside, and my family is everything to me, and I would go to hell and back just for them. My family is going through troubles right, especially my father who is a troubled man. I do not really enjoy discussing this as it is hard for me to talk about, to put it in perspective, only two people that are not related to me know about this ¿¿ my best friend and my girlfriend of two years. My father is an alcoholic. And I am not talking about the ¿¿he has 2 or 3 glasses of wine everyday¿ scenario, but rather a ¿¿he will drink 750ml of vodka during dinner everyday¿ scenario. Its a problem that haunts my family, as I had to go back home to ensure that everything is alright and that my brothers, my mother and my father are all safe and sound. This has started when we moved from the Middle East to Canada, and quite frankly my father has been having a tough time making ends meet and his problem with alcohol is not helping ¿¿ meaning whenever I go home I would help them pay bills. My brothers and I have been making progress recently with my father in having him acknowledge that he does have a problem, only thing that is missing is his action to combat it and rehab has always been an option. With my father having trouble with bills, he surely cant freely afford rehab, so one of my brothers and I have picked up summer jobs so we can send him to rehab for the summer to help him, to help our father become the man that he used to be. Once my father has recovered from rehab, he can not only go back to who he was before but I can also get back to my studies and dedicate myself fully, with no distractions being in way In the 30 days that I have been home so far for the summer, I have saw my father in states I¿¿ve never seen him before, and honestly no child should ever have to. I am the oldest of the sons, meaning a lot is expected from me, and my brothers look up to me, as I am the first in my family to attend a university, and I do not want to let them down. I am not one to play with another persons emotions, but If my family found out about this at this stage they would be devastated.
I have missed a lot of school, and that is my fault. It is my fault for not keeping up with work and assignments, as I gave all my attention and dedication to family and in attempts to fix the problem we face. I understand my fault and I should have split my time evenly, between my family and my work, but I did not, I have screwed up and this is my only way out. I am not trying to blame my father for my low GPA, it is fully my fault for allowing this to happen, but one thing that I am certain about is that I am far more capable. I am just a guy who is in a not so optimal place, a guy who can achieve a lot, a guy who had a lot of plans for 3rd year, such as joining clubs, extra curricular and fully dedicating myself to work. Queens has always been a second home for me, with its friendly community, amazing campus, and just a great place to live out 4+ years of anyone¿¿s life.
So please, whoever is reading this, I trust you will do the right thing and if by some chance, by some miracle the 12 month withdrawal is waived, I will not disappoint you, I will make you proud just as much as I will make myself proud.
On my end of the deal, if my GPA by the end of the school year is not 2.0 then I will withdraw myself from Queens, as much as I would hate to do so, no questions asked, no debates.
To prove this story I will gladly able to set up a skype call conference with my brother so he can back my claim, as I feel this is the most genuine sort of evidence I can provide.
With that being said I am waiting for an appeal that is still in review of a final paper.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My academic plan is simple; bury my head in books and studies until I am happy with my GPA, which I will strive to achieve at least a 3.0 GPA.
In terms of course choices, I have taken courses that students in my program don't usually take (POLS) such as Pharmacology. I did so as a means of broadening my horizons, and it didn't go so well with me failing that class. I know my place now, and it is within the specter of POLS and HIST courses, that is where my calling is.
My academic schedule will be rock hard solid, with me coming back from class and going straight for the books, with nothing to interrupt me, I will raise my GPA from the ground that it is in now, and bring it all the way up
Once my father is out of rehab and is feeling better, I can once again dedicate myself to my studies completely, with nothing in my way anymore, and I will make them proud, I will myself proud, and I will make you proud and not regret the decision of (hopefully) waiving the 12 month withdrawal.
Thank you so much for this. I do trust you do the right thing.
