Dear Johanne Benard,

I am appealing the Faculty¿¿s decision that I must withdraw from Queen¿¿s for 1 year.

My Dad has been a diabetic for over 40 years and the past year he has had a lot of medical issue's, being his only son, I have been helping my Mom deal with his health problems.
He¿¿s had an infected toe since Jan 2017, was monitored twice weekly by CBI and monthly by Quarry Foot care.

For the past 6 months this is a detailed list of our visits and tremendous stress it¿¿s caused on our family. Please keep in mind that I also have a full time job and was enrolled in PSYC 241, trying to complete my degree in order to graduate in June.

Feb 6, He became ill with flu like symptoms, after 2 days, his foot started to swell, turned all red, we took him to Emerg @ HDH, they told us that he could lose his leg, they administered liquid Iv, took series of tests, and had to wait and see if it would work.
Feb 9, Back to hospital for more IV,
Feb 10, IV
Feb 11, IV
Feb 13, Back to emerg with sore leg, ended up having a blood cloth on that leg. Every Tuesday and Friday, he had to go to CBI to check the wound.
March 7, had ultra sound on leg to see if blood clot has cleared up.
April 6, Carpo Tunnel Surgery Dr. Pichora 8 am. Later that night we had to take him back to Emergency as wound was bleeding badly, there till 8am.
April 10, Hospital follow up appointment and his arm got infection.
April 13, Back to emerg wound bleeding.
April 21, Check on wound.
April 24, Got stitches out hand.
April 26, Heart clinic, wired up to check heart irregular beat.
April 29, Back to Emerg, blood behind right eye, can't see out of it, after numerous testing, cause is being a diabetic, treatment will be 3 eye injections.
April 30, Eye clinic apt.
May 1, Hospital to take out arm stitches.
May 1, Back to eye clinic.

My Dad was not able to drive from January until mid May and he does not drive a lot due to the blood in his eye. I did the best I could to juggle work, my Dad¿¿s health problems and school. Unfortunately my studies suffered as a result.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: If my appeal is granted I will continue to seek help from the Learning Strategies staff at Stauffer Library. I only require one more course to complete my degree and having to wait an entire year will be extremely tough to handle.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Andrew Barkman
