Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom this may concern,

I chose to do summer courses this year to catch up on a few courses that I have failed this past year. I was interested in following through with the courses until a week ago (passed the drop date), when my mental health took a turn for the worst.

Over the passed 2 years I have been at Queens University, I have been dealing with severe separation anxiety from my family. This lead to loneliness and depression. I thought changing my major would fix my issue and bring down my stress, but it did not. Since my mental health worsens due to separation, I thought taking summer courses at home would help my situation but i recently realized that my anxiety grew into something more and being at home no longer helped my condition. I realized that my depression stayed with me through the stress of my summer courses.

I am looking to drop my summer courses because I would like to seek help and make arrangements to meet with a personal counselor as soon as possible. The reason why I did not drop the courses before the final drop date is because my depression peaked in the last week due to high stress. I do not want to struggle through the second half of the courses and risk my health getting worse.

I am looking into taking a leave of absence for this following year to take care of my health. As of right now, I cannot focus on my online courses and i am doing poorly as a result. I am too focused on my health right now to do the best I can do with my schooling. I would be grateful for this appeal so I can retake the courses after my leave of absence.

Sincerely,
Laurel Grant
