Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Last year was rough for me as my grade will show. The reason for this was I had trouble adjusting to my environment. In High School I had trouble with depression and I was excited to go to Queens because it felt like a fresh start for me, but when I arrived I didn't settle in fast enough. This destroyed me, I was told stories about how amazing university was but I wasn't experiencing the same thing, and I fell back into my depression. This started to me missing classes because I could not find the drive to get out of bed, and doing poorly on assignments because I felt lost. I when and looked for help but nothing was helping me and I was feeling very alone. I spent most of the year feeling this way until one of the girls on my floor noticed I was not feeling well and made an effort to help me, and she did. She forced me to get out and get more involved, she made me happy again. This lead me to go to class and for the last two months I tried my hardest to fix what I messed up all year. Unfortunately I had dug the hole too deep and I could not recover. Now that if have realized that my life is where it needs to be and I am in the right mind set, all I ask is for a second chance to show Queens that I am a great student and I can be a success. I know that I messed this year on completely and I will always have this year as a reminder to drive myself to push through and get to class and finish all my assignment well. An opportunity to show Queens and everyone that I have what it take to excel in the real world.
