Petition Letter: To: Associate Dean of Life Science,
I am submitting this appeal to study abroad for the Winter 2018 semester at Tel Aviv University, in Israel. I will spend the semester in Israel from January to June. I plan to take five courses, plus a Hebrew language introduction course while abroad. Four of these courses will be electives that include, The Jewish World in the Modern Era; The War against the Jews: History of the Holocaust; The History of Israeli Art; and The Struggle for Palestine: The Roots of the Arab-Israeli Conflict. The final course I plan to take may be a concentration course in the division of Life Sciences at Tel Aviv University International, called Israel and the Environment. Although I may only be taking one concentration course, I am still on my way to graduate with sufficient Life Science courses. In order to graduate I will need to take five more Life Science courses, throughout the year from the LISC_List_A, when I come back for my fourth year.
I did apply for the exchange program to study in various countries but unfortunately I got put on a waitlist. I decided instead, to study through the Independent Study Abroad program as this opportunity means a lot to me, and so does Israel. Israel is a country that I have dreamt about studying in ever since I was a young girl. My father studied in Israel during his third year of university and growing up I always hoped to follow in his foot steps. Studying abroad is a once in a lifetime experience and I love to take advantage of this new adventure.
I am in extremely diligent, responsible, and dedicated person who always puts 110 effort into everything I do. Whether it is studying in school, playing team sports, or maintaining valuable relationships with my friends and family, I do it all to the best of my abilities, and beyond. I love exploring new places, experiencing different cultures, and adventuring into the unknown. These are a few reasons why I know I will thrive in this new environment and grow as a person. I plan to work exceptionally hard this up coming year, as well as in my final year, just as I have been doing all my life. I hope you consider my appeal to study abroad in Winter 2018 of my third year, and help me get one step closer to living my dream.
Thank you very much for your consideration,
Leah Goldstein
