Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to request Credit Standing status for the Econ 111 class I took over the Summer 2017 term. I took this class in hopes of applying to the department of Economics after the successful completion of Econ 112 in the Fall 2017 term. If you look at the overall progression of my grades for the class, you will see that I started out doing well with good grasp of the material and good grades. However, as the summer progressed, I received news that my grandfather became ill. I have always been close to him and this news was unexpected and shocking to my entire family. I did my best to balance my online class and time spent with my grandfather, however, his condition deteriorated very quickly. By the time I took my final exam on July 28, he had just entered hospice a few days before. I did my best to study and focus, but my mind was preoccupied for the last several weeks of the course.
Sadly, my grandfather passed away on August 9. I am glad I got to spend good quality time with him in the last few weeks of his life, but I am frustrated that this major life event may have jeopardized my future as an Economics major at Queen¿¿s. I would be grateful if you would consider granting me a CR for this course so I can continue my path to be accepted into a major in Economics. Thank you.
