Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am first appealing the 21-days deadline, as my IN grade has already expired. This is in relation to my instructor's decision on the date of my writing my final examination. The extenuating circumstances that inhibited me to appeal within the 21-days deadline were family problems. My parents came up to the university during exam week of the Fall 2015 semester, as they had found out that I had been dating someone. They were completely against the fact that I was dating and were not happy with the grades I had been getting. They had me on house arrest and would not let me leave their sight for a few days after which they forced me to return immediately to Ottawa with them. Due to this, I had sent an email to Dr. Easteal explaining to him that I had family issues and that I would not be able to write the ANAT315 exam. Dr. Easteal said that it would not be an issue for me to rewrite the exam once I had my family issues sorted out, he had not told me that I would need to file an appeal. I was under house arrest in Ottawa for a month, after which I was able to return to Kingston by myself. Once I got back to Kingston, I emailed him asking him how long I had to write the rewrite for the ANAT315 exam and he had told me that I had up to 1 year (from the last day of the course) to rewrite the exam. I did as he had told me, and I rewrote the ANAT315 exam with the class of the Fall 2016 semester. The issues with my family are ongoing and I have been completely cut off from my parents ever since this incident that happened in the winter of 2015. I have had to pick up more jobs and more shifts at each job in order to support myself financially through school. This has had a toll on my academic career as I have had to spend most of my time working in order to sustain my costs of living.
