Dear Associate Dean of Studies,
I am appealing to drop two courses from my summer 2017 semester due to extenuating circumstances. Despite it being past the due date to drop courses, I am hoping I can drop these courses due to my situation. I also have realized that two of my courses from a previous appeal was not dropped (BIOL 103, MATH 121) from Winter 2014. I have already submitted an appeal for this last year and had multiple courses dropped due to my medical conditions, but these courses seem to still be in my transcript as an F.

I, unfortunately, do not have the medical notes from my previous appeal to prove my medical circumstances from back in 2014, but I hope that this will not be a problem as I had submitted an appeal for this last year and had courses from that year dropped due to the same reason, and BIOL 103 and MATH 121 seemed to have not been dropped. If there is a problem or any confusion, please let me know.

The main reason for my appeal is to drop my CHEM 281/282 from the summer 2017 semester. I had my grandfather fall sick around the time of my CHEM 281 final and he past away the day before the CHEM 282 final. I spoke to CDS about writing makeup exams but after an emotionally draining two months, but the course was too demanding to catch up with during the funeral and mourning period. Unfortunately, the obituary is in Tamil, but it has a date of death at the top. The past 2 months were emotionally challenging and I have been seeing a psychiatrist for counselling. I will also continue to see a counsellor on campus for further aid. At the moment, I am at a content state of mind, and I am able to accept the fact that dropping the 2 CHEM courses would be best for my progress in my academic studies.

I will continue to see a counsellor to ensure that my mental health is taken care of.

Thank you for your time and effort in this request.

Sincerely,

Vaithini Vijayakumar
