Petition Letter: To Associate Dean (Studies)
I am appealing to extend the deadline to write a deferred exam of the winter term OF GEOL 106 and SPAN111.
I had exams deferred for GEOL106 and SPAN111 due to illness I had during the winter exam season and was approved by my professors. Since then, we have agreed that I would write the exam when I return to Kingston in the fall semester. I moved into Kingston a little later than expected and was distracted with hiring for summer internships that I was unaware of the last academic dates for winter courses. I contacted my instructor and he said I could write the exam next week due to his TA being unavailable. So after that I was suggested to check the deadline by my instructor, and I contacted the faculty to find out that the deadline was today. I previously thought the deadline was within 2 weeks of the fall semester due to a faculty of kinesiology information I found and I thought as long as I had communicated to my professors when they were available for the writing of the exam, that it would be alright.
If my appeal is approved, I would like to write my deferred exam as soon as possible to avoid any more conflicts. In the future, I would definitely try to write my exam within the semester if I were to have anymore deferrals, as to avoid creating difficulties for all parties involved. I would also definitely be more diligent in handling academic deadlines and take responsibility for finding all the appropriate information.
