Appeal Letter for Late Submission Regarding Grade Drop.
I am writing this letter to appeal for the later submission drop date. I was unable to hand in my appeal before the September 15 deadline due to the following reason. The reason for my late submissions is that there was confusion regarding my appeal process. I was informed that I was supposed to hand in a paper copy of the appeal letter to the registrar office with no mention about a deadline. When I asked about the process of the appeal I was not informed about the upcoming deadline, which made it especially hard because I was communicating from Korea. I understand that part of the miscommunication was partly due to my lack of attentiveness and will work towards honoring deadlines. I dearly hope that you will allow me to go through this appeal process.
Appeal Letter Regarding Grades Drop.
I am an international student currently going into fourth year at Queen's university with a second year student status. I'm writing this letter to appeal to you to allow me to drop the grades received from the following courses during the winter semester of 2017. POLS 264, POLS 262, HIS 270, and LLCU 110. This is in fact my second time writing an appeal letter to the university regarding my academic instability.
To start off, my problembegan as soon as I came to the university in first year regarding various things that affected me very personally which were not taken care of ever since my childhood. This accumulated throughout my first and second year until the problem was completely out of my realm of being able to fix it. In second year, as a result, I started developing multiple different mental instabilities including constant suicidal thoughts and abnormal behaviors. In the final season of the second semester of my year two, the situation worsened to the point where I started losing 30 lbs of weight for unknown reasons and also began developing anxiety related depression and insomnia which caused me a lot of physical damage. The most appropriate way to describe this whole event was to compare it to death without being dead. During the summer break right after the school ended, at home back in Korea, something extraordinary happened regarding my faith. This, changed things and my recovery process began which led me to come back to school
This problem was not fully dealt during my third year, however I was definitely in an improved state. It felt like a miracle that I was alive and that I was back at the university again. However, getting used to the condition at school and trying to take care both of myself and my academics were not easy and sometimes I failed but I stepped up back again with the mysterious strength that I had in me with the help of my counsellors at La salle and my community of supporters at Queen's. I finished the first semester of my third year without too much of problem.
Up to a certain point in my second semester of my third year, things were even better than the first semester. However, an issue came up in March whereas I was harassed by someone and this completely placed me back at a state that I was in back in my second year. This threatened my relationship with my whole family and caused many different problems regarding the relationship with my social surroundings including my relationship with some of the faculty members at the politics department, and eventually led me to doubt my faith. I started developing very similar symptoms as in second year such as anxiety, depression, mental instabilities, and same physical symptoms. Back home, this summer I talked to my whole family about the issue regarding my identity. It went through and now I have the support of my family which I believe is to be the strongest support system. Years of distrust growing in me towards my family caused by my own struggles and identity was finally taken off the situation and now I am back at Queen's ready for another school year.
After putting restraint between and me and my harasser, time, faith, and healing through my faith, I was able to recover from the event with restored hope and passion for my academics. I hope with this appeal, I will be able to continue my academics and ensure this will be my best academic year. If you need any documentation, please contact me as I have them. I really hope you could take this appeal into consideration and that the appeal would help you understand that this has been an ongoing issue since second year.
Thank you.
Sincerely Min.
