Petition Letter: To the Dean,
I am currently a first-year BAH student that is planning to transfer my education to University of Toronto St. George (Life Science) after finishing my current year here at Queen's University. After one month of experiencing the Queen's U environment, I have concluded that this culture is not suitable for me and I would be in a better state living in Toronto (physically and mentally). I have consulted the academic offices of both UTSG and QU, and I am now very familiar with both systems as well as the transferring of their credits.
The UTSG academic system holds a Breadth Requirement system (BR), where courses are split into five categories:
1. Creative and Cultural Representations (BR1)
2. Thought, Belief, and Behaviour (BR2)
3. Society and Its Institutions (BR3)
4. Living Things and Their Environment (BR4)
5. The Physical and Mathematical Universes (BR5)
In order to graduate, I will need to achieve a 1.0 (full year) credit in four of the BR categories. After translating all my QU credits into the UofT system, I still lack one 1.0 credit in BR1. Being able to complete this credit means that I can transfer to and graduate from UofT smoothly and conveniently with minimal additional summer courses. Out of all the courses that are applicable under this category, only CHIN100 has open space and is compatible with my current schedule. Having said that, I would need to drop ECON110 in order to make space for CHIN100. I have already spoken to an academic advisor and I understand that I will only be refunded around 75 of the fall tuition and 100 of the winter tuition. I also acknowledge that I will be repaying the fall tuition for CHIN100.
I have spoken to Professor Bai and she has given me approval to enrol in the CHIN100 course. Her letter will be attached.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: In order to succeed in CHIN100, I will first need to drop ECON110 in order to made space for my new lectures. I understand that I have missed 4 weeks of class and I have personally spoken to the course TA about my situation. I have already shared my plan with her and she has agreed to spend extra hours of tutorials every week to provide me with the required content and support (specifically, I will begin and end tutorials an hour before and after the slotted time, respectively. This way, I am investing three hours instead of one per week on tutorials).
Furthermore, I have many connections with students who are currently enrolled in CHIN100, many of which I am residence neighbours with at the moment. I have already obtained notes from them and have began looking over the material I have missed. I am also friends with quite a few Chinese international students, and they have agreed to provide assistance.
Lastly, because I am ethnically Chinese, I have native Mandarin speakers in my family who are more than willing to support the learning of my Chinese ethnical culture and traditions. Moreover, I truly believe that learning new languages is my strength, and that I will achieve greatly in CHIN100 although Asian languages can be challenging.
And of course, I will definitely attend all my lectures and participate as actively as possible.
