Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop the following courses: MATH 121 (Winter, 2016) and PHYS 106 (Winter, 2016) after the drop deadline. It would be helpful to me if CHEM 112 (Winter, 2016) and BIOL 103 (Winter, 2016) could also be dropped, however I have retaken BIOL 103 during the summer of 2017 and am currently retaking CHEM 112 (fall and winter term, 2017).
About halfway into my first year at Queen¿¿s University, the work and stress started to overwhelm me and I fell into depression. I did not socially adapt well to university life and spent my time in isolation. I began spending much of my time lying in bed and stopped attending my classes, doing my assignments, and even showing up for the final exams. I feel that the marks I received for these courses do not accurately reflect my academic performance.
To succeed in my studies this year, I have visited Student Wellness Services and am currently seeing a counsellor for my mental health issues. These sessions help with my depression by identifying and acknowledging my faults or unhealthy patterns in life and together, my counsellor and I agree on suitable solutions. With the help of my counsellor I aim to become more comfortable in social situations and befriend some of my classmates. The plan to move forward from this is to start slow by taking a lighter course load and talking to other students outside of class. I am more aware of the various resources available to assist me academically such as the Student Academic Success Service.

Amendment to Appeal 3868
Relevant Petition: 3868
New Information: I am appealing to waive the one term deadline for the dropping of my courses. I did not appeal within the required timeline because I was unaware of the option to do so and the impact it would have on my academic standing. I did not research this as I was still trying to deal with my depression. My main coping method was a very bad avoidance habit where I would just try to ignore and hide from my problems. I was only aware of it at the beginning of this term when my mental health counsellor from Student Wellness Services recommended I make this appeal.
