New Information: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing to have the Incomplete's extended for the following courses: EMPR220, WRIT265, LLCU249, FILM300 and HIST207. In addition to this request I am appealing to drop the following courses from my transcript: ENGL 259, HIST 214 and LAW 201. During the months these courses took place there were several personal events beyond my control that affected my time and ability to perform these academics adequately. These events affected my personal and academic life and have affected me in a tragic way. During this time I tried my best to put my psychological health first so I could salvage what I could and continue to move forward. After two deaths to those close to me along with a tragic assault incident and a car accident, interactions with an abusive partner and assisting with the breakdown of a family member, I was unable to complete all my course readings on time and when it came time to submitting assignments I did not have the time or knowledge to provide sufficient work to my instructors. I am able to provide a doctor's note to demonstrate I am taking the correct steps to move past these tragedies but the other documents I believe are to sensitive and I ask to please keep those personal.
I have since been able to catch up on my readings and complete assignments to the best of my ability. I do request the incomplete grades to be extended so my instructors can submit the change of grade forms for the courses I have completed. I worked hard to catch up and to learn what I could and hand my in completed assignments in. I ask that you not only grant this but also the request to drop the three courses that I received a low grade in as these instructors were unable to provide an extension for me in time. I work hard in both areas of my life, academic and professional and these incidents are unusual and not common for me. This has been an embarrassing struggle as I always try my best to put my best foot forward and stand on my own two feet. I've had to rely heavily on my academic advisor and the Queens staff to understand my options and help me to understand ways to remain successful and graduate on time. By having these appeals granted I know I can be successful as I plan to have the necessary grades changed and be in good standing with a great GPA that will allow me to hopefully graduate this fall. My wish was to have my grandmother who was extremely close to me watch me graduate as I am doing all of this for her but unfortunately she has recently passed away. This was terribly hard on me and I want to ensure I get everything else completed for my degree so I can graduate on time and have my grandpa be around to see this.
I plan to be successful and continue my studies with your assistance with this appeal. I know I can make up for the past and make my peers and school very proud. I ask that you consider the sensitive incidents I have gone through and please consider my request with an open heart. I know I can appeal should achieve academic success and that these events were only temporary, as is all pain. With regular appointments to the recommended health care professionals I'm slowly creating a successful routine and coping in a healthy way. These courses are the last ones I require to help me complete one of my many goals; graduating.
