Petition Letter: Tuesday, November 7th, 2017
Dear Associate Deans of Arts and Science,
I am a second year student in the faculty of Arts and Science. I am appealing to drop CHEM 211, CHEM 212, and CHEM 213 (Fall 2017). This is because I have decided that pursing a major in Chemistry is not a good fit for me.
I have missed the deadline to drop because I have been struggling in these courses and trying my best to persevere. This past week, I have been trying to decide what to do. I did not want to make a hasty decision and drop the courses before I received any guidance. My parents took the day off yesterday and came down to help me sort things out. I went to try to make an appointment with an academic advisor but they were all booked up. I spoke to one today and have decided that dropping the courses in Chemistry is the best decision for my academics.
My plan for achieving academic success is to begin to take courses towards a major in Environmental Science. After reviewing, this program seems like it will suit me much better. I have completed a few courses for this program already and I have enrolled in courses for the winter term that fall under this plan. I have plans to continue with the other two courses I am enrolled in this semester, which can help to bring up my GPA. I believe that I can improve my grades enough to surpass academic probation by the next evaluation date.
Thank you in advance for considering my appeal. I hope to hear a positive response from you soon.
Sincerely,
Juliet Kennedy
