Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,

I'm writing in regards to requesting either a course drop or a credit standing in the courses listed above. As mentioned in my appeal to drop past 21 day or one term deadline, I went through a sudden death in the family during my first semester here at Queens. I soon after that became depressed, and as a result later developed an extreme anxiety disorder.

After seeking medical attention from professionals, and pursuing guidance from the schools academic advisors, I realized that I just wasn't ready at that time time to revisit my studies or appealing these classes sooner.

This anxiety started in October 2015 after losing my brother, and following this I was too emotionally unstable to focus properly on my studies, which is why my Fall 2015 term grades were so poor. I thought by the next semester I would be able to pick things up again as a fresh start, but I learned from experience that wasn't at all the case.

The next year I was placed on academic probation for obvious reasons, and because of this tried to better myself by attempting to find methods to help cope with my anxiety, one of which included over the counter medications. These self medicated attempts did not help, and I was later required to withdraw for one year in May of 2017. Although the option to appeal the course drops or credit standings were available to me then, I simply wasn't in the place to visit that process.

Over the last 7 months, I have worked alongside a medical professional whose opinion was to enlist prescription anti anxiety medications, which have done a great deal in bettering my mental state an overall quality of life. It is for this reason that I'm excited about the idea to return to my studies, and am asking for consideration on the courses above.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Kate Thomas
