Petition Letter: I am requesting to drop BIO 102 after the drop deadline.
My time here at Queens has really made me contemplate what I want to do with my life and more importantly what is going to make me happy in life. Coming from a private school with high expectations, I thought science was my path because I exceled at it in high school. I realise now, just because you¿¿re good at something dose not mean you will be happy doing it. I realize now I was pursuing a career for others not myself. The move across the country (I am from Victoria B.C.) to university has put a large about of stress on my mental heath. I have always struggled with anxiety and it has been heightened since moving away from home. I think the stress of university, coupled with the pursuit of career not for myself but for the validation of others, has left me feeling numb.
My plan is to take the rest of the school year off and find what I want to do. I have always loved and had a passion for art, so I think I might want to pursue that. I plan on using my time off to explore careers that are related to art, such as architecture, school art teacher, and art gallery manager. By taking the rest of the semester off I will have more time to work on my portfolio to apply to visual arts programs.
Having biology 102 as a dropped course vs a fail on my transcript will give me a better opportunity to get into a fine arts program next year. I want to drop the course because I have found a new path I want to go down, not because I cannot handle the work load of BIO 102.
Thank you so much for considering my request, I really appreciate your consideration,
Jade Robinson
