Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hi there,

I'm not sure if this is necessarily the right category for this type of appeal, but I will explain the situation and hopefully it can be forwarded to the right category (sorry if that is the case). Essentially I was completing my Rosetta Stone work for FREN 106, and at the top it displayed a bar that said 95 complete. When the deadline for Rosetta Stone to be completed came by I didn't think anything of it, and was happy with that level of completion. Then when I got my mark back I got a 2.35/30. I thought there was some mistake so I went online to look and saw that after digging around on the website there were a bunch of other modules, and the 95 was only referencing the one module. I looked online and found that this was a common problem with Rosetta Stone, and that the software does not make it apparent that there is another module to move on to once the first one is completed.

I started panicking, as Rosetta Stone was worth 30 of my mark, and was by far the easiest part of the course. I right away thought, given that I have done all the assignments and gotten high grades, it's pretty obvious that I wouldn't just throw away the easiest chunk of 30 of my grade, and it doesn't really cost them anything to open up the modules for a little longer, I can just complete it over the christmas break. However when I expressed this to the Professor, I was given a very standardized policy answer saying nothing could be done. I'm just frustrated because I have invested a significant amount of time into this course and gotten good grades along the way, and this would essentially mean I need to pay 1500 to redo the entire course (this would be the lowest mark on my transcript by far otherwise), when I genuinely thought I had completed all the required work. I am seeking to get my grade changed to an IN for a total of 10 days so I can complete the additional modules, or to get the cost of re-enrolling in the course waived. I'm not the type to send off messages like this, but I really feel like this would be an unfair outcome otherwise. I wasn't trying to beat the system, and I'm more than willing to put the required work in, I just didn't see there was any more to be done.

Thank you so much for your help,

Sawyer
