Petition Letter: I am appealing to waive the 21 day deadline, so that I am able to drop my ECON 111 (Fall 2016) from my transcript due to issues in health. During my studies at Queen's University last year, major issues with insomnia developed. During this period of time, it was a common occurrence for me to go days without sleeping. This resulted in numerous factors that affected my studies, including drowsiness, a major increase of anxiety, lack of focus, and most of all my attendance in labs and classes. The accumulation of these factors soon impeded my academic performance as I fell behind in my courses. Before the winter exam season in 2016, I made the decision to suspend my studies until this issue was resolved. After I had withdrawn, I sought help from my family doctor. Through different trials of prescription, change of diet, lifestyle, and varies other suggestions, I was able to properly manage my insomnia. These issues carried out even after I withdrew, however they were easier to manage without attempting to manage studies as well. To withdraw from Queens was a very hard decision, and thankfully I was able to return with the following class. Despite my academics going well, I still feel at a significant disadvantage with my class. Many opportunities, and options are closed as a product of my health last year. I was unable to make the 21 day window as a result of dealing with my mental health, and I was wrongly under the assumption I could manage my academic career afterwards. Should this appeal be granted, I feel as the opportunities and options that I deserve as a student, without issues in my health, would be available again. Please see attached the same letter I gave for my Appeal to drop, describing issues in mental health previously mentioned.
