Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I'm writing this appeal to waive the 21 day deadline to submit an appeal. This appeal to waive the deadline is due to many factors.
The foremost factor is not being an active student at the time, and thus being unaware that my grades had changed from IN to F. Being disconnected from Queen's as I was not enrolled in classes, it was difficult to make an appeal in the 21 day window when I was unaware that the window existed or had passed. I was also not made aware that the grades that I'm appealing would have to be appealed, as when I received permission from my professors to not write the exams for the courses, I was replied to simply: You can write the exam when you come back to Queen's.. Evidently there was poor communication as I was not to return to Queen's until the winter semester.
At this time I was beginning to work for a company that it is my hope will become a career when I've completed my post-secondary education. My Queen's degree is an Economics and Psychology medial, and through my Economics degree I learned that a career in Information Technology and Computer Science would be the most secure. This was particularly stressful due to my lack of experience in the technology sector and I was determined to make the most of a rare opportunity.
Thus, being presented with a job opportunity at a software company, a job which I had to learn many skills to begin, I was absorbed in working and learning for what I would hope would become a fruitful and successful venture for many years to come.
Lastly, during this 21 day window it was a particularly turbulent time in my household, as my sister's wedding was in September. As I was helping to plan a wedding, working a new job that is poised to become a career, I was emotionally drained, and also unaware of my deteriorating academic standing.
So I'm appealing to waive this 21 day deadline so that I may appeal my grades so that I may get a chance to write the exams for two courses, so that my grades may reflect my knowledge of the course material and not the unfortunate events and timing surrounding my time studying at Queen's.
