Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom it May Concern,

This letter is an appeal to drop POLS 280 ¿¿ Introduction to Women, Gender and Politics (Fall 2017). Over the course of the fall semester I was battling with some personal issues which affected my mental health which in turn affected my academic performance and abilities.

I sought help and told my full story to a professional at Queens late November. Prior to that, I was unable focus in class and had much difficulty studying outside of the classroom as well. I would physically attend all of my classes but it was almost like I was not there ¿¿ my mind was always racing with other thoughts beyond my control. Luckily, most of my classes had final exams in December, and major assignments were all due at the end of the semester when I got my mental health under better control. Unfortunately, POLS 280 had a midterm which I wrote while I was not in the right state of mind. I could not handle the excessive amount of pressure of completing an exam worth a great amount of my final mark put on me at the time. Suffice to say, I failed the midterm. Towards the end of the semester, I believed it was best for me to stop participating in the class and not complete the final exam. Due to the short amount of time I had before the examination period ended, I believed my time would be used more wisely if I put complete effort into my papers that I had yet to submit for other classes that I was doing well in up to that point.

As for my current and future plans, I am only taking four courses this winter term in order to have more time to focus on cognitive behaviour therapy. Aside from that, I am and will be maintaining regular appointments with my medical professional both at home and at Queen¿¿s. I have already dropped documentation off at the Arts and Science office that shows that I have a serious medical condition. It outlines that due to my symptoms I was unable to complete any work for a period time. To make up for the missed credits, I am planning on taking taking up some extra courses over the summer when I have my mental health under better control.

Sincerely,

Sagar Walid
