Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I want to drop FREN 219 due to the severity of my mental illness these past weeks resulting in many absences. But for the upcoming semester, that mental illness is something that isn't recognized as an adequate reason for absences. This would cause me to lose significant marking. I was working with Dr.Duffy at Queen's Psychiatry in which she switched my medications causing a severe major depressive episode. I couldn't go to classes because of this sudden depression and suicidal ideations that came with the withdrawal symptoms. I have been emailing with Agathe Nicholson in the french department in which she suggested I appeal to drop this class and we came to the conclusion that taking FREN 219 next year would be best.
