Petition Letter: To Whom it May Concern,

My name is Vlad Ienceanu Student ID 10180598, and I am writing this letter to appeal CHEM 281, in order to try and salvage my GPA in order to attain an internship. Chem 281 Introduction to organic chemistry is a very tough course to handle, however with the proper time and effort, it can easily be passable. I tried to put as much time and effort as I could, however it was very hard due to 2 reasons. During the fall semester, I had to go to Toronto very frequently to meet with a Doctor in order to determine my Attention Deficit Disorder. This took a lot of time in order to go back and forth and provided a lot of stress. Furthermore, I received the news that my grandfather health had deteriorated and he was going in and out of hospitals in Romania. I had approached Dr. John Carran and explained the situation, he was very understanding and suggested that I focus on myself. I did not listen and tried to push through and obtain the credit for the course. My grandfather was the only person that actually believed in me and supported me through my academic journey. He became very ill through the semester and eventually peacefully passed away. this really took a toll on my academics as can be seen from my other courses BIOL 330,339, and 401. I would like to ask for an appeal to get CHEM 281 dropped off my transcript, since most Companies ask for a GPA, and dropping CHEM 281 would put me at a 3.1 for my previous semester which is much higher than my current 2.3, and would allow me to be competitive in the hiring process.

I can provide the doctor's note stating that I would go back regularly to Toronto, however providing a birth certificate for my grandfather is a bit difficult as he passed away in Romania, and the certificate is in Romanian. I can try my best to attain a copy of it, and take it to the proper notary, however I hope that my constant travels to Toronto can suffice for the appeal.
