Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean of Studies:
I am writing this appeal in an attempt to receive late enrollment into GPHY 207 due to extenuating circumstances. To this date, I have continued to attend the GPHY 207 course upon advice and support of Professor Manion. My long-term goal is to earn a Master of Urban and Regional Planning at Queen's.
In August, I was prepared and registered for my courses on the exact date and time of my enrollment appointment. When I attempted to enroll, SOLUS denied my GPHY 207 request as it had already been filled. Knowing that this course was required for my program and that I am in my second year in the Geography program, I proceeded to join the waiting list at position 3.
When I returned to Queen's in September, I had moved up to position 1 on the waitlist and was reassured by multiple people that I would soon get in. After the first class, I met with the professor for the course, Professor Nathan Manion. He was quite supportive and appeared confident about his superior's ability to assist me.
By the time of the add/drop date, I had not yet received any information on my waitlist situation, however I remained optimistic about my professor's positive outlook. To ensure I would not have 6 courses when I got into GPHY 207, I dropped GEOL 106 on the add/drop date leaving me with 4 courses. A couple days passed and I received an email from Professor Manion stating that there was little chance of me getting into the course and that my final option would be to submit and academic appeal.
Professor Manion has been very supportive and offered alternate assignments should I reenter the class. I then proceeded to make an appointment with Joyce Hunter, an academic advisor whom I had worked with in the past, in search of assistance in this process. Thankfully, she was able to provide me with a comprehensive understanding of the appeal process and instructed me to pursue this immediately.
I respectfully ask your consideration of this appeal. It will be very difficult to make up this course over the summer as I will be working full time and be fulfilling my Queen's Baseball requirement of playing in a competitive league.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: In order to be successful with the late addition of GPHY 207, I have continued to attend all lectures presented, as well as followed up on online information through a friend. I currently only have four courses and therefore have no issue adding another to fill my program's requirements.
After speaking to him at the first lecture, Professor Nathan Manion has expressed nothing but support towards my appeal for late admission. He has agreed to waive the first assignment which has now passed and has agreed to assign additional work in order to make up the grade. Please refer to the attached letter from Professor Manion for further proof of support.
Academically, late enrollment into GPHY 207 will both improve my GPA and fulfill my required credits from this specific course. Due to full-time employment and a Queen's Baseball obligation to join a summer league, I have insufficient time to allocate towards a summer course in order to achieve a prosperous grade. I plan on pursing an accelerated degree option within Queen's School of Urban and Regional Planning meaning my GPA needs to reflect my academic ability, not my available course time.
I ask for the academic consideration of enrolling me into this course in order to help me achieve my goal of becoming a Queen's graduate student.
