Petition Letter: 2. Address: Associate Dean of Biology
a. The Request: I am appealing the F on my transcript from the Bio 110 course due to grief, health and personal/psychological concerns.
b. Explanation of Extenuating Circumstances: In the fall term of 2017, I suffered the loss of my grandmother who for all intents and purposes was the most motherly figure in my life. This caused me to miss a week of schooling. I then had a physical illness of strep throat, which had me suffer a high fever and therefore was unable to process school work or participate for upwards of 3 weeks. I had to defer my exams. The loss of my family and the strep created a psychological challenge which presented as anxiety for me because I fell behind and could not focus. This became very debilitating and I had to begin seeing a psychologist who recommended I pursue this process and defer my classes to this next term. She has sent a letter of support.
c. I am appealing to drop a course late and I propose to retake the course the following year or over the spring session. I do not have anxiety due to this situation any longer and would like to proceed with the courses and my academic goals of getting a psychology degree.
