Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Dean of Associate Studies

I am writing to appeal to allow me to drop ECON 212 without an academic penalty. This is stemming from an incident I had during my midterm on the 6th , and as you know the last day to drop was the 2nd so by the time I knew my result there was nothing I could do about it
I had an psychological incident during the exam which caused me to be unable to complete the exam. This extenuating circumstance took over my concentration and prevented me from being able to focus, making me leave the exam mostly blank as I left early to seek treatment. After I left I immediately went to the walk-in clinic to speak to a professional. I had made an appointment to meet with a doctor for the same reason a week earlier but due to the backup in the health services I had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment, so I had yet to meet with them at the time of the incident. The staff at the walk in treated me and calmed me down. After I left I was faced with the problem of what to do about my exam. As it is worth 30 this failure has eliminated any realistic chance of me getting the C that I need to move on.
At the time I decided that since I had already paid the course fee I might as well continue with the course, after all my midterm had been a week after the drop date and the fee for an appeal is 50. Then I got accepted for exchange after being waitlisted and my marks became of greater concern. It became clear that if I performed poorly or failed a course I would have my placement revoked which would be personally devastating.
I plan on retaking the course during the summer term, when it is offered online with Anya Hageman as the professor. I have also been referred to a specialist and am working towards treating my condition, so I can manage events like this and move forward to ensure they never happen again.
I hope you can understand the circumstances which have led me to write this appeal, my marks are of a great concern to me and I am confident that given a second attempt in ECON 212 I will perform well.

Thank you for your consideration
