Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am writing to appeal for the 21-day policy on appealing for academic courses. On my transcript for my second year for the winter term, there is a STAT 263 course that states that I have gotten a failing grade in the course. However, I had taken this course the semester before, and received a passing grade. I have no recollection of signing up for this course for the winter semester.

At first, when I found this course on Moodle, I believed that it was just the same link for the course that I took in the Fall semester. However, I later realized that this course was a distance course. My first thought was that perhaps I had failed the first semester STAT 263, and SOLUS put me in the distance course to make up for the failing grade. When my grades for the Fall semester were available, I realized that I had passed STAT 263, so there was no reason for me to be registered in the online version of STAT 263. Believing that this was a SOLUS error and that it would be fixed soon after, I put the issue into the back of my mind.

After my third year at Queen's University, I required an unofficial transcript for a job opportunity, and it was then that I noticed that my STAT 263 was not only appearing twice but also that one had a failing grade. It was when I returned to Queen's for my fourth year that I decided to go see an academic counsellor to find out what was happening. The academic counsellor, Spring Forsberg, informed me that she could not remove the course, and that I needed to appeal for my grade to be removed.

I am writing this appeal in hopes of waiving the 21-day appeal policy so that I can appeal for the removal of my failing STAT 263 grade.
