Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am making this appeal for the HLTH 101 course that I took during the fall term of 2017. I contracted mononucleosis around the end of October and was sick until the beginning of December. Overall this was about a 7 week period during which I had to go back home in Ottawa and was bed ridden. Unable to eat, and barely able to drink water. I had extremely severe mononucleosis and even reading a book would intensify the already extreme headaches/pain that I had. I was unable to take care of myself and had to be home in bed, as per doctor¿¿s orders. I visited the Ottawa hospital November 2, and this was the day that I was officially diagnosed with mono, however I had been in bed sick since the end of October. Mononucleosis usually takes at least a minimum of 2 months to recover from, as a result the note that I got from the specialist at the Ottawa hospital only covers 2 weeks, as they believed that I would be revisiting the hospital soon as my symptoms were so severe, and at that point they would write more notes. I had waited about 10 hours in the hospital to see this specialist, as a result I know that it would be very difficult to find him again. I did not revisit the hospital for the remainder of my time with mononucleosis, as I recovered surprisingly quick within 8 weeks. I have missed about half of the course due to the extenuating circumstance of having severe mononucleosis, and I believe that it is logical for me to deserve having the course dropped from my transcript due to this. It is well-known that mono rarely ever lasts less than 2 months, so I believe it is not necessary for me to go back to the hospital to get another note from that specific specialist. This is because I am currently extremely busy with schoolwork and exams, and going back to Ottawa to wait in the hospital for 9+ hours to try to find the specialist I had seen is very unrealistic. If it is deemed necessary that I must get another note in order to get this appeal, I can go back to Ottawa and try my best to find the specialist again in late April. Overall, I believe that I should be able to have this course dropped as I was unable to study/complete coursework for over half of the course, as a result my grade certainly does not reflect what I could have achieved if I did not have this extenuating circumstance.

Thank you very much,
Arian Sattari Khavas
