Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: April 2, 2018
To the Associate Dean,
I am writing this in order to summit an appeal for my Roman Classics course, CLST103 by which I would be allowed to withdraw from the course without academic penalty after the normal deadline drop date.
Due to a variety of physical and mental health conditions, I was forced to withdraw from school completely during the 2016-2017 year. Last summer it was determined that I had undiagnosed ADHD. I also suffer from anxiety and depression from time to time.
This year, with my diagnoses, my doctors and I have been working to find the best treatment for me, in order to work to the best of my abilities. We have made significant progress. The most recent adjustments to my medication were made in February of this year, and early indications are that this is having the desired effect.
In first semester of this school year I was able to successfully complete 3 courses. With this, I optimistically enrolled in five courses, believing that I would be able to handle the course load, while working on treatment. As the semester went on, however, I realized that this was not possible. By the time I had figured this out I was not aware of the deadline drop dates. I do believe that in order for me to perform to the best of my abilities this semester would be to only have four courses, and drop CLST103.
Hopefully I can continue this progress and next semester I will be able to complete a full five courses, while continuing my treatment.
In the future I will be more aware of the deadline drop dates in order to prevent this from reoccurring, and be more aware of how much work I am taking on while working with my doctor to help me be able to perform to the best of my academic ability.
