To Whom it May Concern:
I am requesting the appeal of the final grades in the classes SOCY 226 and HIST 218 that effect my GPA (fall 2017).
During the Fall Term 2017, I was dealing with ongoing immense pain, due to my kidney. This was extremely distracting through the Fall Term and I was constantly missing class, and was occupied with my health and the constant pain that was happening. Through this time I was in and out of doctor appointments to try and decrease the pain that was happening, as well as try to get a diagnosis for this intense pain.
With the doctor appointments it was discovered that I had been producing kidney stones and had also had a small cyst on my ovaries. Unfortunately, my academic standing was effected by my medical situation during a busy and important time during the fall semester. Painful stones continued on October 20th, which was the Midterm of HIST218. I still attended as I did not want to miss such an important test, but unfortunately the pain continued, and I was completely distracted with the intense pain during this test.
My second stone was between the dates of November 14-17. This stone struggled to be passed, as it would move in and out of the kidneys causing intense pain for days on end. During this time, I struggled to sit up, to move and did not eat for days. Not only was I in such intense pain but I also had to attend SOCY275, my second midterm. Again, my health effected my concentration on my academic pursuits on my exam and some term papers.
I decided to reduce my course load to just one course for the winter session and returned home to seek more medical help. Furthermore, after much investigation, my family physician also diagnosed me with an eating disorder. I am currently in treatment for (see attached medical document).
This summer I plan on taking a full course load to make up for my time lost during the winter term of 2018. Now that I have taken time to understand my physical and emotional needs and gain strength again, I will be more successful with my studies.
As I returned to my studies I was much more successful and in a much more mature state, and ready for the year. My success is seen through the grades I achieved in my classes (SOCY226 and GNDS120). My grades from first year are much weaker than my second year grades, though due to being in chronic pain due to my kidneys I was not as successful in HIST218 and SOCY226. This is because such large assignments were during the same time as my kidney stones and I was in such intense pain and constantly rushing back and fourth to the doctors that my focus was not on my studies.
I would appreciate greatly to have these two grades be appealed in order for my GPA to not be affected by them. I have taken action to seek medical help and strengthen my emotional and physical stability to accomplish the next semesters ahead of me. Please see the attached doctors¿ notes to confirm my kidney stone problems and eating disorder diagnosis.
