Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello,
Please allow me to explain the reason why I have applied for demission for this school semester.

My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in March of 2014. She underwent radiation right away and following that chemotherapy. At that time I became her primary caregiver. She has now finished 6 cycles of chemo, and the doctors think her physical side affects are overcoming the positive aspects of the treatment. She has been unable to hold anything in her hands, as they are all blistered, which hinders her ability to even feed herself. This situation has been continuing, and up until this semester I have been able to juggle everything in my life. Since her condition is deteriorating, I don't feel I'm able to, at this semester, continue with 3 classes. I feel I need to be available to help her on a daily basis, and possibly continue with school in the winter semester depending on her condition.

I understand the terms of my acceptance was being able to maintain a certain GPA during each semester, and I feel as I will not be able to fulfill that criteria this semester because of my mom's illness.
