Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: A few days before my December math exam, I ran out of a prescription I take every day for my neurological health. It significantly affects the way I'm able to function and concentrate. Before it ran out, I tried getting a refill from both my family doctor and psychiatrist in Scarborough. Both of them said I would have to physically go there for them to provide me with a refill, which I was not able to do. I then went to the local walk-in clinics in Kingston but was told that because of the controlled nature of the medication, it could not be prescribed to walk-in patients. Had I know how difficult getting a refill would be, I would have acted much sooner. I immediately experienced severe withdrawal symptoms which included hyposomnia, severe fatigue, and anxiety. These symptoms peaked on the day of my math exam where I couldn't focus on the questions enough to answer them and left many questions I would normally be able to solve, unanswered. It led to my getting a 43 on the exam, while I had an 89 in the course going into the exam. I got in contact with my professor early in the new year and was advised to submit an appeal for the whole course once it ended as the mark could not be adjusted or reweighted as the course has 2 semesters. I knew I couldn't let this happen again so I have since been referred to a psychiatrist in Kingston and things have been going much better.
