Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: April 24th, 2018

Dear Associate Dean of Studies,
I am making this appeal with hopes of the removal of failed classes from my official transcript during the winter and summer terms of 2015. I made an appeal in the winter of 2016 that detailed some of my explanations and failed to properly amend these classes to that appeal. I contacted David Yousef this semester to ascertain what my options were, and his advice was to file a new appeal.
In 2014, I began getting severe headaches and inflammation of my right eye, a condition that went undiagnosed and unsuccessfully treated with pain medication and the use of street drugs. I saw three different Ophthalmologists that were worried about orbital cellulitis. I saw countless E.R. doctors that continually sent me home with prescriptions for narcotics and anti-inflammatory medications. Eventually, after three years of failure to find answers I got a referral to see a neurologist. Dr. Desai diagnosed me with Cluster headaches, and prescribed the necessary interventions that would help to deal with the pain and inflammation. This year my symptoms were limited to only one week of severe headaches, and I was able to complete all of my assignments and obligations to my courses.
I have struggled with addiction for many years. The circumstances identified in my previous appeal omitted the range and severity of how addiction, the timing of the death of my father, and the cluster headaches have coalesced over the years. Particularly out of shame and guilt, I felt the need to narrow my focus and not ask more than I thought I deserved when making an appeal.
