Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: In this letter, I will explain why I was unable to write the PYSC 100 final in this exam period. I was unable to write the PSYC 100 exam this exam period due to being sick for most of March. In March, I was sick with a sinus infection and then a bad cough. I visited the doctor three times on March 12th, March 22nd and March 24th. During this time, I was extremely tired and my cough was painful. I was functioning at a quarter of my usual capacity. I was resting most of time in order to recover as quickly as possible. These symptoms greatly interfered with my ability to concentration and study. Due to this, I was not able to keep up course material and begin preparing for my final exam for PSYC 100 in early March.

By the time I recovered on March 28th, I was two weeks behind on course material with two weeks to go until my final exams on April 12th, April 13th and April 14th. Out of all my courses, the PSYC 100 exam required the most review for me as it is memorization intensive. For the PYSC 100 exam on April 12th, I knew from the fall final exam that two weeks was not enough time for me to properly memorize the detail and amount of information required to pass the exam. Unfortunately, at the time I was unaware that an appeal of extenuating circumstances option was available to Queen's students. I was also overwhelmed with getting caught up and reviewing for my exams in my other courses. I felt that I was able to get caught up in those courses in time as they required less memorization. As result of not having enough time to review, I did not write the final exam for PSYC 100. I knew the memorization intensive nature of PSYC 100 from the fall exam required that I review for three to four weeks prior to the exam. I know that had I not been so sick in March, I would have begun my exam review in early March in order to be prepared to pass the final.
