Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I was unable to complete my MATH 210 exam due to an illness that arose during the examination. I had a migraine prior to my exam, however, chose to write the exam as the migraine wasn't entirely debilitating at that point. Unfortunately, during the exam, the pain escalated and I suffered from a migraine attack with auras such as loss of feeling in left side of the face, vertigo, tunnel vision, and nausea/ vomiting. I attempted to continue writing the exam but ended up, upon the recommendation of the proctor, leaving the exam unfinished.

The morning after this took place I e-mailed my professor notifying him of the circumstances and filed a self-declared brief absence form.

Today I received an e-mail from Michelle Gallant notifying me that I will receive a failing mark in the course but have the option to appeal to drop the course and receive a DR. After having not been able to complete my exam due to illness I was under the understanding that I would have the opportunity to re-write the exam as I would have had I filled out a self-declaration of illness form prior to writing my exam.

As I am going into my fourth year, re-taking this course will be a tremendous set back in completing my Mathematics major. In appealing this grade I am hoping to have the opportunity to write my final examination to receive a fair mark in the course as I would have had I been able to complete the exam, or receive a CR for the course on my transcript.
