To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing this letter of appeal due to the extenuating circumstances that prevented me from dedicating the energy and focus to both studying for, and writing the exam for Dr. Yael Schlick¿¿s ENGL 486 class in the winter term.

Early on in the semester, I developed a condition which compromised my health and wellness on a daily basis. At the beginning of the term I was able to contribute to class discussion as well as turn in high quality work in a timely fashion. However, as my illness progressed, it often prevented me from going to class although I still tried to complete my assignments regularly.

Toward the end of the semester, my condition only increased in severity, which influenced my ability to physically come to campus each day. When I wrote the exam on April 25th, I was unable to recollect much of the knowledge required, due to physical and mental impairment from my condition. As a result, my exam score and subsequent grade in the course was not able to reflect the quality of my work when I was well, nor is it up to par with the quality work I have been producing thus far at school. I am applying for Credit Standing because I believe my performance in the class and, more broadly, my academic capabilities is not reflected in any way by my performance on the exam. Had I not been under physically and mentally debilitating circumstances, the outcome of the exam, and class, would be very different. I genuinely consider my poor performance on the exam a loss because I was indeed looking forward to showing Dr. Schlick my dedication to the course and Travel Writing.

Thank you for your attention,
