Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello,

I am writing this appeal letter on the basis that the final two essay's and final examination were marked unfairly compared to other students and/or the level of understanding we were instructed throughout the course. In regards to the final two essay's of the course, I took all the TA's evaluation suggestions and directly applied it to my final assignments but she still was very harsh and seemed to be overanalyzing every small little error in my essay's rather than the whole essay as a whole. She stated several times that she provided suggestions for delving deeper into the nuances of the text in order to develop dense close reading. The structure of the essay, in particular the thesis and the topic sentences, would benefit from further work. I worked very intently and focused on close reading and analysis and even got upper year tutors to aid me in these suggestions and even with all of their extra help, no fairness or even consideration of my attempts were given. Once I recieved Patricia's anaylsis and marking of my essay, I sent both essay 3 and 4 to an English professor at my old high school and she strongly believed that this marking is very unfair and poorely assessed my strong efforts in both essays. I am able to provide all of Patricia's (my TA) comments on my marking if need be and would really like for my essay's to be properly and fairly assessed as I feel my marks were not a fair assessment of my work.

Similarly, if my final exam was marked anything like my essay's throughout the course I would also like for that to be reevaluated based on my above remarks on this courses marking and how unfair it has been.
