Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing this letter to ask for special permission to late drop the course GNDS215, held within the fall semester of the 2017 academic year. During an appointment with my advisor, he notified me that due to special circumstances I could submit an application for appeal.

I have, for the last couple years, had a medical illness that was manageable up until mid-2017. On November 29, 2017, I had to have surgery with Dr. Ayeni so the condition would no longer be an issue in the future. My surgery had some unforeseen complications during recovery. I was on severe medication that inhibited me to think clearly and I was unable to about school due to the pain. During this time, there were tests that I did not do my best on and a final assignment that was due during that time worth 30 of my final grade.

If I had known that there would be these circumstance affecting my ability to focus on and complete my course, I would have dropped the course before the deadline. However, that was not the case. I am almost done my program with about a year left and cannot afford to have a failed or incomplete course on my transcript. I am planning to continue my education by applying for a Master¿¿s degree and my chances would of being accepted could be affected. I have always done well in school over the years and have worked hard during my studies at Queen¿¿s even with some medical challenges. I do plan on taking this course again in the fall to replace the one I am hoping you let me drop.
