Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I, Xifeng (Wendy) Hu, am appealing to add two courses after the add/drop deadline. The reason why I am submitting this appeal a lot later than I had planned is per my LING 100 professor's request to complete my first LING 100 test to gauge my ability to catch up with the course.
On add drop day, I dropped all of my courses to my dismay. I was initially told that in order to become a speech therapist, a major in Linguistics or Psychology was mandatory. I spoke to professors in those two departments and I was told that I could not major in neither of the two, as I was considered a cross-faculty transfer due to my previous enrollment in commerce. I also spoke to Dr. Bernard and academic counselors in ArtSci regarding this matter.
During the entire ride home, I was heartbroken. I could not stop crying, because I was aching to return to Queen's and immerse myself in academia and extra curricular activities. As soon as I came home, I did extensive research and found out that I could major in anything to get into speech language pathology and law school. After one and a half days, I returned to Queen's.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My plan is to enroll in LING 100 and ANAT 100 for the fall semester. Prior to add/drop period, I had already been keeping up with the coursework for both courses. I only missed two classes when I left Kingston for home. I also have friends in both classes, whom I have already contacted regarding missing schoolwork, notes and advice.
I have proven my ability to maintain a high GPA in LING 100 through my first test. I received an A grade of 86.5 on my first test, which scores highly amongst my peers. I also attended many TA sessions adn listen intently during class.
By taking only two courses in fall semester, I can focus my energy on catching up on missed courses. I am following Dr. Bernard's advice regarding taking two or three courses in fall semester. My plan is to take six next semester in order to renew my Chancellor's Scholarship (9,000/year). Since I had been enrolled in PSYC 251 prior to add/drop period, I will be taking that course in winter semester. I will be taking notes for PSYC 251 this semester, so in a sense I will be taking three courses in fall and five in winter semester.
I have already spoken to an academic counselor regarding my courses, and I was told that I am on the right track for grad school options (speech language pathology and law school) and I can graduate in a timely manner if I take summer courses.
