New Information: Dear Dr. Jill Atkinson,
I'd like to add some information in support for missing the one term deadline. I initially did not appeal because my extenuating circumstances were ongoing - I was depressed and hadn't come to terms with my father's illness.
Although depression no longer reared its ugly head for me this year, I prioritized my mental health above all else and avoided anything potentially stressful. Above anything, even graduating or the future, I didn't want to fall into the hopeless, hazy pit of depression again. I tried to move on by evading the past year, and it hasn't been until now that I've felt secure enough to confront my problems.
As a psychologist, you understand the downward spiral of depression, the lack of energy, the stagnation, the aimlessness, and above all, the shame and guilt. I was lucky enough to recover from all that with the support of my family and some firm goal setting, and I don't want that period of my life to devastate my future as well. I beg you to consider those extenuating circumstances and my current and past academic performance.
Sincerely,
Allen
