Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To the associate dean (studies),

I am was trying to add summer term courses on Friday however, there was a hold on my account. I had made the payment and contacted solus after sending them an email showing proof of payment. I had confirmed with the person over the phone that the hold was temporarily removed. I also signed into to solus to confirm the hold temporarily removed and I received a confirmation email stating this fact. The email and the person on the phone explained that the hold may go back OVERNIGHT. I was calling from work to ensure the hold was removed and could not add the courses I needed during my 15-minute break at work. Once I got back home and tried to add the courses on Friday evening (before the adding courses deadline) the hold was back on before the overnight window (as stated in the email as well as the conversation over the phone). I sent them another email (on Friday) and tried calling as well but the office was closed. I have now (Monday) contacted the office again and I am told that I need to appeal and pay a 50 fee. I believe that is unfair as I was meeting the deadline for my courses being added and took all the appropriate measures to ensure that the hold was removed and I would be okay to add courses before the deadline. The reason for leaving things to last day was because I needed to speak to my academic advisor as well as the department of psychology at Queen's and other universities to ensure I need to take the summer courses in order to graduate in the fall term. I also needed some time to arrange the payment to pay my fall dues. I had previously appealed to have an extension on my fall/winter fee payment but it was denied which caused a balance to be carried over. My payday from work is also Friday so I was waiting for the last pay cheque which would allow me to make the tuition payment in full without any balanced carried over. Kindly assist.

I have attached screenshots of my conversation with solus as proof. I would like to request to have the appeal fee waived as I was wrongly informed about the hold on my account and I cannot afford that right now.
