Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),
I am writing this letter to request an appeal to drop PSYC 241 (Winter 2018) past the drop deadline.
I have been dealing with personal psychological challenges through the semester that have hindered my wellbeing and performance. The level of stress during the exam period had affected my studies and became hard for me to control. As I entered the winter exam period I was extremely overwhelmed with this online course, leading me to mix up the dates of my exam and the location. I had been taking another distance studies course that stated the exam was proctored online and I carelessly confused that online course with PSYC 241. On the day of the exam I was not located in Kingston, where the exam was held and urgently emailed my professor explaining my situation and requesting an opportunity to rewrite the exam. She graciously accepted with a 15 penalty to the exam, resulting in a grade of 0 for 7.5 of my final mark. The psychological stressors of my other exams and this situation all lead me to underperform, as I had previously calculated my mark at a 64.
In the future, if this appeal is granted I will actively make personal adjustments to better my education and succeed at Queens. I have begun researching resources in the community that I can use to assist my mental health stability through the school year and maintain balance with my course load and support my future goals.
I hope you take my situation into consideration for an appeal to drop the course.
Regards,
Julia Ramadhar
