Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am appealing my final grade, and more specifically, my final exam grade, in POLS 264 (World Politics in Historical Perspective). The extenuating circumstance that I feel directly affected my academic performance was the ice storm event on April 14th. The POLS 264 exam was scheduled from 7:00-9:00 PM that evening and was re-scheduled as a result of the ice storm event. Consequently, the final exam for this course was offered in an ¿¿alternate format¿ that was to be written online, and returned to the instructor, within a 96-hour time frame. I had a very busy exam schedule this semester and POLS 264 was to be my first of five exams. I feel that while other students may have benefited from the alternate exam format, I did not have the time to put in a lot of extra work researching and perfecting my exam. If there had been an option to write the exam in a regular exam format on an alternate date, I would certainly have selected this option. I spent a total of two hours writing my exam and feel strongly that had I written the exam in a regular exam setting, my mark would have been higher.

I am a third year Political Studies major and POLS 264 is the lowest grade I received this year. My final mark in this course was 76.4. I am requesting that my exam be reviewed in hopes of achieving a mark that is more consistent with my regular performance in POLS. Thanks, Melanie Greenwood.
