Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am appealing for Credit Standing in ITLN P10 from the 2015 fall semester, POLS100 from the 2015 fall and 2016 winter semesters, and PSYCH 100 from the 2016 summer semester.

At the beginning of the fall 2015 semester, I was sexually harassed spending the night in a friend¿¿s residence on campus. This caused me to struggle with my adjustment to Queen¿¿s and my mental health for the remainder of my first year, and for the years that have followed since.

Living on west campus, paired with this experience so early on in my first year was extremely isolating. I found it increasingly difficult and often impossible to leave my room to attend classes and extracurricular activities, and even to socialize with my floor mates. This led me to drop HIST120 and FILM100. The courses I attempted to complete were greatly affected by my mental health during my first year.

In order to achieve academic success I began seeing a counsellor at Lasalle¿¿s counselling services and was put on different medications alongside regular counselling to complete my first year.

Going forwards, I continue to seek assistance through counselling services and other resources. My academics have greatly improved each year in doing so, which leaves these first year marks very out of place. I have chosen to submit this appeal late because I have worked hard towards my academic success and these poor grades are a provoking reminder to me of my first year as they stand out so negatively from my following grades.
