Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am writing you to appeal my eligibility to take the remainder of my credits through Athabasca University. As well, I would like to appeal to remove the following classes from my transcript, the ones at which I did not succeed. (SPAN P10, FILM 240, GPHY 250, GPHY 351 and HIST 210).

Throughout my four years at Queen's, I've always had a difficult time at studying and staying focused. At the time, I thought my lack of concentration and anxiety was normal among students until I recently was recommended to see a doctor. This summer, I was finally, after many years of struggling, diagnosed with ADHD. This illness has severely affected my studies throughout my time at Queen's, and has severely affected my ability to give 110 to all of my courses, thus explaining my lack of success in certain courses.

Although I am extremely saddened to have discovered this so late in my academic career, I do believe that it will help me move forward with my courses and help me as I one day begin a career. I would like to finish my degree through Athabasca, so that I am able to stay close to family as I start out new medication for my illness. I would also like to remove the classes from my transcript at which I did not succeed with the hopes that I will one day be able to attend grad school. Although this was discovered very late for me, as opposed to many other students diagnosed with the illness, I am very relieved to know that I will now be able to give so much more to my future studies, as well as to many other aspects of my life.
