Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Queen¿¿s University Associate Dean (Studies),
I am appealing to have my grades from the Winter 2014 semester dropped from my transcript (DRAM200, DRAM205, POLS280, POLS212, IDIS210). Also I am appealing to have DRAM300 added to my schedule after the add/drop date.
I suffer from a severe case of Ulcerative Colitis (a degenerative autoimmune disorder), which in the past has commonly rendered me incapable of going to school due to hospitalization or extremely poor general health. In 2012 I underwent an invasive emergency surgery on my stomach and intestines, which required a month recovery in hospital.
Since the surgery I have suffered extensively not only from my physical heath challenges but also from mental challenges related to anxiety.
In March I was diagnosed with Depression, Anxiety and Acute Post Traumatic Stress Disorder at the CAMH Crisis Clinic.
I spent the Winter 2014 semester struggling through treatment with specialists at CAMH, commuting between Toronto and Kingston. When my colitis flared up again in March 2014 I was unable to mentally or physically continue my studies for the rest of the year, resulting in many failing grades.
It is believed by my doctors that my anxiety was liked to a latent mental response to my surgery in late 2012, and that when my physical illness returned I was not mentally capable of dealing with both it and school.
I would also like to be enrolled in DRAM300 past the add drop date.
Since I am retaking DRAM200 (I am a drama major), I didn¿¿t enroll in DRAM300, believing there would be a prerequisite conflict. However, I have since discussed it with the department and they have agreed I am capable of taking both classes simultaneously. (I have attached an email message from my professor regarding this).
I have been attending DRAM300 all semester and need only to be enrolled in the class. Craig Walker my professor in this course supports this.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: As for future plans, there is nothing I can do about my physical illness except to stay on top of my work and keep my teachers informed when I¿¿m sick. I do however see a gastroenterologist who has me on new medication that seems to be working well.
I spent my summer getting counseling for my mental challenges and have much better coping strategies now in place. It is now week six and I am in good standing in my courses this semester and believe this pattern of success will continue.
I will continue to see my counselor and take medication prescribed to me by my physicians.
I am a very hard working student and my failures last year were quite out of character for me. It is very important to me to succeed here at Queen¿¿s and I hope that having these grades (that do not reflect my true ability as a student) expunged will open up more opportunities for my future.
Thank you in advance for your consideration,
Shannon Klumak
