Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am appealing to waive the requirement to withdraw for a minimum of 1 year. Over the summer and into this school year I dealt with the loss of three very close family members, my aunt, uncle, and grandmother. Dealing with this during the school year was very difficult for me, however I continued and was doing quite well with my studies. I spoke with one of my professors from first semester and came to an agreement to write an exam from a class I took first semester, during the exam period of second semester. Unfortunately, during the beginning of the second semester exam break, I was the victim of a unprovoked physical assault, which left me with a severe concussion, nerve damage in my face, and several facial fractures. After meeting with numerous doctors it was decided that I would be unable to even consider writing any examinations until the later half of the summer. I relayed this information along with supporting documentation to my professors, and came to individual agreements with them regarding the completing of my examinations. The reason for my being required to withdraw is due to my GPA not being above a 1.6, however, upon the completion of these courses I am writing the exams for this summer, as well as classes I am taking during the May-July term, my GPA will be well above a 1.6. A few of the classes are repeats of classes in which I did poorly, and have been doing quite well in since repeating. I will be completing 4 exams in August - early September to complete the exams I was forced to miss due to the assault, and another 5 exams in July for summer courses I am taking. I feel that if required to withdraw, I will not have been given an opportunity to improve my GPA from last year when put on academic probation due to all my examinations being incomplete following this assault, and I am positive that upon completion my GPA will be much higher than a 1.6, as each and every one of the classes I will be completing over the summer and into the first week of September, I have completed all assessments to a high degree. I have included medical documentation to confirm I was assaulted, and advised not to complete exams until late summer, and obituaries of my family members who passed away.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Moving forward, I will be writing my deferred exams over the summer, as well as exams for additional courses I am taking this summer to improve my GPA to my goal of a 3.0. I also plan to consult with academic advisors if I ever end up in another situation where I am injured and said injury will hinder my completion of course work.
