Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),

My name is Connor McCauley and I just completed my second year at Queen¿¿s majoring in Political Science. I am appealing to request to take third-year courses away from Queen¿¿s on a letter of permission. Studying abroad has been a goal of mine since I started at Queen¿¿s. However, I did not have the necessary marks at the beginning of my second year to qualify for the Queen¿¿s Exchange program. Thus, I am pursuing the ILOP option with high hopes

I plan to study at John Cabot University in Rome during their spring semester in 2019, which runs from January 16 ¿¿ May 11. I have been in contact with an Assistant Coordinator for Independent Admissions at JCU and have confirmed that credits earned there are entirely transferrable back to Queen¿¿s in relation to my department. On top of that, I have researched the courses offered at John Cabot and reviewed my study plans with Dr Grant. As well, I am very much aware of my degree requirements, including the mandatory 300 level courses I must take. I have been granted special permission from Ms MacIntosh to take POLS 385 in the second semester of my fourth year, therefore I am confident in my ability to fulfil all requirements without difficulty.

John Cabot University is an amazing fit for me, both academically and personally. Their American-style learning environment will allow me to jump right into the academic side with ease and comfortability. One aspect of John Cabot that caught my attention was their class size, which averages about 15 students. With a small class size like this I will get to know all my classmates and professors personally, something that is not always achievable at Queen¿¿s, and an opportunity I see as beneficial. John Cabot¿¿s Political Science program has traditional strengths in the behaviour and historical study of American, European and international institutional politics, as well as global public policy, human rights, peace and conflict studies, and global political theory. All of which connect directly back to the curriculum offered within the Political Science program at Queen¿¿s

I am extremely passionate and excited about this opportunity.

Sincerely,

Connor McCauley
