Petition Letter: Hi, my name is Evan Hickey and I am a third-year student in Geography & Urban Planning. I have been a very active and engaged student throughout my first 5 semesters at Queen¿¿s University, and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Although, in the most recent semester from the end of January onwards into and finishing exams, my experience dramatically shifted. As the semester went on I often found myself very unmotivated and suffering from what has been diagnosed as depression. Work became incredibly difficult to complete and my total work load was suffering. Later on, in the semester, my grandfather had passed away which had made doing my school work and being an engaged student nearly impossible for me, as we had an extremely close bond. I had to miss a week of school (Week 11) during the semester in order to train home to assist with and attend his funeral. After that, my academics really started to fall off and it has been very difficult to recover from this even into the summer. I have met with my doctor multiple times, been through multiple sessions of psychotherapy and been in contact with kids help phone. I am still in the process of recovering as it has been a slow and working process. I am very upset at the way my last 4 months have turned out as it is not what I had expected to be going through during my time at Queen¿¿s. I have been in touch with one of my professors on setting up a structure to finish my school work into the summer and hope to be able to do the same with my others.
