Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am appealing to waive the academic appeal deadline due to the same circumstances that I will look to explain in my actual appeal letter. First of all, I understand that it is my responsibility as a student to properly meet deadlines, even after the year has completed and I¿¿ve moved out of first-year residence. I was dealing with what I thought to be situational depression, a result of isolation on west campus and my actual first year experience clashing with what I thought my first year would be like at the university I grew up wanting to go to. However, after returning home, I was unable to shake my demotivation and depression. Through the great help of my mother, I was able to sort out many of my issues and eventually started to work hard on catching up with all the responsibilities I had regretfully overlooked, scholarly and otherwise. It was only on the 3rd week of June that I decided to go speak to Andrea Labelle, an ArtSci advisor, who told me that I had been put on academic probation and would need to first submit this letter and then my actual appeal to be able to continue into my next year of study. Afterwards, I immediately got to work on preparing the draft for this letter and started thinking of both the mental health counsellor and residences coordinator whom I had talked to about my isolation and depression during the year. I am sending this letter because I don¿¿t believe there is any other place I¿¿d rather be than at Queen¿¿s, and with a plan to switch my study from Politics into Music I feel more than ready to submit an appeal that will let me begin my studies with a new found motivation and outlook on my scholarly life.
